The advert must include the same colours, the same font and the same band members or image used on the CD cover. This is to make sure there is consistency and uniformity between both. The font must be the same because the band name is like a brand name. This synergy will make it easier for fans to recognise both the CD and the magazine advert when they see it on the shelf.
As well as these features, the advert must include a release date for the single, as this is what is being advertised, the record label that the band are signed to and the name of the single. It could also have an iTunes logo so that readers of the magazine know the single is available for download.
Here is one of Blink 182's magazine adverts for their latest album. It is quite simple, and just includes a copy of the album cover with text underneath. We think this is a good way of advertising the a CD as it shows the album cover, so fans know what to look for in the shop or on iTunes, has the important information on big font- the release date, the name of the album and the name of the band, and is simple- linking very well with the pop punk genre.
This is our magazine cover that we have created using Photoshop:
We used similar conventions shown in the one above- a copy of of the CD cover and writing at the bottom. We also made sure that some of the font was larger than others as these were the most important pieces of information on the advert. We also included the website for the band, the record label logo and an 'available on iTunes' logo.
